Blockages

Blocked toilets, sewer and stormwater drains cleared.

Water draining slowly? A toilet backing up? Don’t wait until it overflows.

SurfSide Plumbing & Drainage clears blocked drains across the Gold Coast, Tweed and Northern NSW. From slow-draining sinks to backed-up sewer lines, Rob can assess the problem, explain the options and carry out suitable work to restore flow.

After-hours assistance is also available for urgent blockages.

Signs you may have a blocked drain

Blockages can develop gradually or cause problems suddenly. Common warning signs include:

  • Sinks, showers or baths draining more slowly than usual.
  • Toilets backing up or struggling to flush.
  • Gurgling sounds from drains or fixtures.
  • Unpleasant smells coming from drains.
  • Water backing up through another fixture.
  • Multiple drains becoming slow at the same time.
  • Wastewater or sewage overflowing outside.

Having the problem assessed early may help prevent an overflow and reduce disruption to your home or business.

What causes blocked drains?

The cause depends on the drain and how it is used. Common causes include:

  • Grease, fats and food waste building up in kitchen drains.
  • Hair and soap residue collecting in bathroom pipework.
  • Wipes, sanitary products and other unsuitable items being flushed.
  • Tree roots entering pipes through cracks or joints.
  • Damaged or displaced drainage pipes.
  • Leaves, silt and debris restricting stormwater drains.

Clearing the immediate blockage may restore flow, but recurring problems can indicate an underlying issue that also needs attention.

Blocked toilets, sinks and showers

A blocked fixture can quickly interrupt your day.

Rob can investigate whether the problem is local to a toilet, sink or shower, or whether it appears to be further along the drainage system.

We’ll explain the findings and the proposed clearing method before proceeding. If several fixtures are affected, let us know when you call, as this can help us understand the situation.

Sewer and stormwater blockages

Blocked sewer lines can cause wastewater to back up through fixtures or overflow outside. Stormwater blockages can cause pits and downpipes to overflow or contribute to water pooling around the property.

We assess the affected drainage and use a suitable clearing method based on the blockage, pipe condition and available access. This may include high-pressure water jetting where appropriate.

If the findings suggest damaged pipework or another underlying problem, we’ll discuss further investigation and repair options with you.

Recurring blockages and tree roots

If the same drain keeps blocking, clearing it repeatedly may not address the cause.

Tree roots, damaged joints and deteriorating pipework can allow blockages to return. Rob can assess the symptoms and recommend further investigation where needed.

This may include a CCTV drain camera inspection when there are indications that a closer look inside the pipe would help. We’ll explain the purpose and any additional costs before proceeding.

After-hours help for urgent blockages

An overflowing toilet or backed-up sewer can’t always wait until the next business day.

We offer after-hours assistance for urgent blockages. Call Rob to explain what is happening and confirm availability, the next steps and applicable charges.

If sewage has overflowed, keep people and pets away from the affected area and avoid using the affected plumbing while arranging assistance.

Clear advice and repair options

We’ll explain the proposed work and costs before proceeding.

If clearing the blockage reveals damage or a need for further investigation, we’ll discuss the findings and provide an estimate or quote for additional work. Our aim is to help you understand both the immediate problem and any recommended longer-term repairs.
